VASL
VASL is a local charity providing services and support across Harborough District and Leicestershire.
They are based in Market Harborough, near the Leisure Centre and Two Shires Doctors Surgery, and also provide many of their services across Broughton Astley, Lutterworth, Kibworth and Fleckney. Their Support for Carers Leicestershire service is delivered across Leicestershire county, and they have groups in Blaby, Charnwood, Hinckley and Bosworth, Oadby and Wigston, and North West Leicestershire.
Their mission is:
"To improve and enrich the lives of people in our community by providing services as well as volunteer facilitated activities."
They deliver high quality services that are funded by Children in Need, The National Lottery Community Fund, Harborough District Council and Leicestershire County Council, with additional support from local organisations, donations and grants, see more. Their main source of strength are their lovely volunteers, who make such a difference to people in our community.
They currently have five main services that are dedicated to improving the lives of family carers and people who are isolated, lonely or want to improve their mental health. This includes their Community Champions initiative, which focuses on services and support for older people. This video gives an overview of some of the things they do and the impact they have.
Support for Carers Leicestershire
VASL describe a carer as someone who looks after a family member, friend or neighbour, with that person relying on their care. This can be full-time care to a few hours a week.
The Support for Carers service helps people that care for adults (over age 18) across Leicestershire.
The service includes:
- a dedicated telephone advice and support line so you can talk to a team of experienced professionals in confidence about any aspect of being a carer
- assistance in completing the carers assessment
- information on carers' support groups around the county
- an informative website and self-help videos
- advice on any aspect of the caring role, including financial and legal assistance
They also work closely with health professionals and social services to help people to identify themselves as carers and gain access to the support they need.
They are a charity and are independent. Your personal data and circumstances stay confidential unless you give them consent or if they have a legal duty to share that information.
